FCL: Full container load. If you ship FCL, the whole container will be yours for the duration of the shipment.
LCL: Less container load. You will share a container with others. You also be sharing the cost. This container sharing will be coordinated by a consolidator.
LCL shipping can be slower than FCL and parts of your container may need to be dropped off along the way and/or reworked at intermediary ports.
TEU: Twenty foot equivalent unit. A 40ft container is 2 TEU.
FEU: Forty foot equivalent unit. 7 TEU is 3.5 FEU.
Consolidator: a consolidator will combine individual consignments from various shippers into 1 shipment.
RORO is short for “Roll On Roll Off”. Cars, Motorbikes, Trucks, Vans, Lorries and Buses are generally loaded onto a vessel RORO. This avoids the use of cranes, saving precious time at the port. Non self-propelled cargo will be placed on handling equipment with wheels at the terminal and will be rolled on and off the vessel.
